Menopause

In western medicine Menopause is a time in a woman's life when her periods become scanty and eventually stop and the body goes through changes that no longer allow her to get pregnant. It is a natural event that normally occurs in women ages 45 - 55. The main symptoms are hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia along with the fear of the aging process.

The word “menopause” does not exist in traditional Chinese medicine. Actually, TCM calls these various symptoms that some women experience simply “menstrual cycle ending symptoms". According to traditional Chinese medicine, women tend to suffer from blood deficiency, due to the menstrual cycle for many years that become later a Yin deficiency of the liver and kidneys. Yin energy is responsible for cooling the body that is why a Yin deficiency may cause hot flashes and night sweats. Acupuncture is very effective in re-establishing the Yin energy of the body, restoring the balance with the Yang energy. Chinese herbs are necessary in this type of case, Liu wei di huang wan for example, is a powerful herb for liver and kidney Yin deficiency. Patients feel better and/or are totally relieved of these symptoms in 2 or 3 months. Walnut, is also one of the Bach Flower remedies, it is very good for times of change and helps to readjust during milestones in our lives.

In a holistic point of view, I also pay attention to Louise Hay, who says, that menopause is related to fear of no longer being wanted and a fear of aging. The mind body connection in women is very important and when you change your thought process to, “I am balanced and peaceful in all changes in my life, I am happy with my body. It is time to find new goals in my life". It brings a whole new way of being balanced for you mind, body and spirit.

It is time to be healthy.
